I have noticed some things when working on my yobo,
1) the controllers accept the ones with 4021 ICs, but they are very propietory, By thins I mean the Up/Down thing only works for the 4021 ICs, IE SNES controller mods do not work
2) The yobo is finicky, Some games have scrambled sprties, this is because of the sketchy compatibility, you just need a whole lot of luck for finding a "good" one, mabye the SuperJoys are better?
3) Nothing beats a NES, the look, the feel, the compatibility, EVERYTHING works on a NES, I mean everything, that includes yobo ontrollers and well while I got some of those wisdom tree games to work on a yobo, They could also work on a NES with a little effort...

NOACs are generally very good with Famicom stuff, but I have found a pretty good explaination as for why they tend to be iffy with the NES hardware.
NES actually does have some important differences from the Famicom to begin with. Noacs actually should be called FCoacs because they copy the Famicom hardware. The NES was built like the Famicom and is %100 the same as Famicom except for these things:
The NES does not have any audio input lines on the card edge, it uses a different card edge connector, it has the expansion port and different controller ports, and it is built with a greater level of precision. If my reading has been correct, the NMI timings on the NES are actually slightly different, and certain chips on the NES were built with lower tolerances for flaws. So, a NOAC's kinship with the NES is less than with the Famicom.
The SNES was built with even lower tolerances for flaws than the NES, because it was so much more complex, and so it would not surprise me that the IC's from the SNES would not be compatible. The NOAC probably "bends" the specs of the control IC just enough to go outside of the normal tolerances of the SNES controller IC, and that's why it's ot working.

that stuff about it being a FCOAC thing I agree with entirely, The big thing is that I think you have one thing off, the SNES controller can be modified to work on a NES, NTSC NES
No this tells me that the NES is looking for up and down only, while the FC is looking for a more specific UP/Down, also, the Famicon had the MMC5 mapping toolset...so why Is this so different?
Just a thought...also, you said relocated pins, would the cart NOT run if any of the pins did not perform properly?
Also, what exatly makes the MMC5 run?

I've compared a 'Yobo NeoFami' and a 'Famulator' side by side with a JP Famicom Model 2 and the results are surprising. The Famulator has far-and-beyond better audio reproduction, speed (as in, less slowdown/lag) and dramatically superior build quality than the Yobo system. The only better feature of the NeoFami over the Famulator is its superior controllers. These are compatible with the Famulator, by the way. I highly advise avoiding the Yobo systems-- as far as Famiclones go, they are quite poor products. At least they look nice.
NOTE: The 'Yobo'/NeoFami's FOAC is at least better than the SuperJoy's, which is hilariously crap.
