N-Forcer Thingy...

I have decided to use Linux on my N-Forcer, instead of making it as a console now... those nano itx motherboards are small... so my n-forcer will become a handheld, capable of using linux apps.

Ok, I don't like it, I find it very hard to use and install, and I've grown up with windows (ever since using the best of them all 95)

I wont argue it sucks at first, I'm still learning. But if you get something like a good book or even better a class you'll find its just as good if not better.

Yeah, just because you aren't used to an OS doesn't mean you should dis it. MANY people prefer Linux, especially those who want more control over their boxes.

It's designed to be more complex than Windows, and to be used by techs and businesses who know more about what they're doing. Only now are they starting to successfully make it so that the layman can start using it well.

This is coming from a MS-DOS 5/Windows veteran who HAS tried Linux.

it really depends on the distro. I had problems with Red Hat, Mandrake, and Knoppix (though I never used it much) I got pretty sick of it after a while. Then, I got in the mood to try Linux again, and I tried SuSE. If you're coming from Windows, it's the best. Installing stuff is really easy, especially if you know the basics of how to do it

Also, all my hardware works on it without any extra hardware configuration, even my tv tuner

Can you watch tv under linux, I like to watch things like Adult Swim well on the MB, email, ect. So that would be an added plus, atleast until I get a tv in my bedroom.

if i had my way, we would all be using dos...
i prefer windows, but linux is a nice alternative when i get the urge to mess with my computers, i wont argue that it isnt hard, because it can be, but if you look at it from an unbiased view, it can do almost everything windows can, and some more things, not to mention it can totally OWN windows in some aspects

I think what turns most people away is the heavy use of shells. Of course linux shell commands aren't nearly complex as CISCO shell commands

yes, if you have a tuner card. If you do, however, it works under Windows as well. I have the ATI TV Wonder VE (Value Edition) and it works just fine. Not the best for gaming, but it works well otherwise.6 (if I have an N64 on a tv and on the card, the tv looks better)

It is very convenient, though

Sorry about my very un-professional opinions on linux... i'm probably using a crappy distro. I have a TV Tuner card for my PC, and when I tried it on my TV and played Quake 3 Arena, it looked terrible.
