do i really need a cooling fan for my n64 p or would vents do the trick fine?

You dont, as long as you replace the heat sinks. And even then its still a good idea. Just get a small 12v one from radio shack. The voltage doesnt matter, and put a switch on it and run it only after a while if it really bothers you.

It depends on the size of the heatsinks and the ventilation. If you use small heatsinks or it doesn't have good ventilation, use a small fan.

I say it really depends on the size of your case, If it is large enogh so that your hands do not transfer heat to the mobo, then just stick with stock

However, There needs to be at least a small amount of airflow and if the airway is tight it is highly recommended from me to get a fan to force all the hot air away from the mobo

well im going to use the n64 case so itll be a cross between marshallh's first n64p and daguuys. having all the buttons and functionality of daguuys and the cleaness of marshallh's though thats in theory chances are my idea turns out crap.

Honestly I would use a small fan anyway just because I am paranoid, but I think Ifyou have a battery and an reuglator that doesn't get that hot then you could use it with the factory heatsink without a hitch, just don't play if for like 10 hours straight <- hyperbole...

good thing thatll be impossible considering the battery life on this thing is going to be crap but would the fan make much noise and how much would it cost

No. Don't get a fan from Ratshack. For the price of their cheapest fan, you could get a fan with LEDs and have it shipped to you from Newegg. Find an old computer and get a fan out of there. I wouldn't spend more than $5 for a small fan if you get it from a store.

alrighty i wouldnt get one from radio shack as i live in spain. does anyone know a site that has a decent one that would shipt to europe or does anyone have a spare? also if i were to use AA's i wouldnt need more than 5 right? because i saw a diagram that used 5 and eight and that kind of confused me.

6 NiMH cells is all you need. I recomend C's because they have much more capacity and I heard some stuff about AAs not being able to supply enough amps. The fan I used was a 3cm fan from a videocard heatsink.

can you post a pic of the type of fan and batteries you used? and where did you put the fan btw? and how bout memory cards where do they go in your case?

I'm not sure what type of fan it is and the site I got the batteries from is down (powerizer.com) but here's some pics with the fan, heatsinks, and batteries. The black heatsinks are hard to see but imagine 2 black rectangles where you can't see anything

Mine only has 7 C's because that's how many my internal charger is for.

And here's where the memory card goes. The controller board is held in with a bunch of hot glue

cool stuff thanks i suppose ill start going to your sight for all the info i need but wouldnt 7 C's be 10.5 volts? and if so wouldnt it kil the screen?

Rechargable C's are 1.2v each so it's 8.4v. The screen can handle anything from 7.2v-9v. My site doesn't have N64 stuff but benwiki.tk does.
