Well, I needed to draw this for a member of the forums, so I thought I'd share it with the other people here just incase they needed it. This uses three 7808 chips in parallel to create an 8V 3A supply for powering the PS1 off of a battery higher then 8.4v.
Note: the parts list says 7805 but it should be 7808. Also, the filename says 8V 8A, while it should be 8V 3A. I guess i'm just pretty tired right now. I can assure you that the diagram itself is correct though.
I tested my PS1 with a ti dc-dc convertor for the 3.3v (I assume it draws about the same current as PSone) and it takes less than 1A noramlly and about 1.5A for a split second while chaging CD speed. So it would probably work with just 2 7808s.
Nice diagram, Iam7805! Although I don't see why it'd be worth the hassle, if you could just go out and buy a 7.5Vish battery. But hey, here's to all the cheapo's! AYE!
Not the best method (power not evenly distributed over the regulators). I'd suggest a current passing transistor setup or just buying a larger-current regulator.

Yup, this is cheap if you already have a battery that's too high voltage for the PS1. You can get free samples of the 78xx series at www.fairchildsemi.com
