Some questions

I think I'm ready to start on my first portable. I plan on making a SEGA portable using the RADICA and HIP screen. But where do I start? I did some searches but the only guides i found were the NESp, SNES and a SEGA CDX guides. I'm such a major newb, I never even solder before until today (soldered some wires to a resistor..wow). That leads to a question:

1.) Is a 40W soldering iron safe for portable modding?

And how should i start this project? Any infomation is much appreciated.

Start by going to www.doomportables.org . Theres some general all around good to know knowledge there.
