Component Video Question

Post by Super Cameraman »

Can I use regual RCA cables to connect my computer to my TV? My computer has component out, and my TV has component in, but I don't have component cables. Aren't they the same cable only different colors, or do I know nothing about HD?

As a long, long time ago, Spongebuell once told me that a "Wire is a Wire"...good times. Yea, basically it's really the same RCA port/wire for the jacks. Just make sure you hook up the right parts. Put yellow to red, and yellow to the red on the TV basically. It's all the same thing. Just I recommend you get some high quality cables later on or er...it's just not as pure.

Indeed. The living room TV here we used some A/V Monster cables for the component. Like Red for red, white for blue, and yellow for green.

A wire is a wire, and ground is ground!

The only difference is the color of the plastic.

I bet you could rig up some quality cables with Radio Shack RCA connectors and some CAT-5 wire. If it's good enough for Ethernet, it's good enough for video. :P

It's funny, because it's something I told my dad ages ago and he didn't believe me and blew loads of money on the cables.
