will charging a 7.2 volt battery with a 9.6 volt charger...

Pretty sure it'll work fine. The only problem might be heat for the battery.

cool, because I have bought a 7.2 battery, too it apart to rearange, and the thing wont fit in this ancient"universial charger " my bro had from radio shack

solder on like a plug/wire from an old electronic device with a removable ac adapter and run wires from the contacts of the batteries to the old plug socket from the same thing and you got a custom charger for it.

If you're talking about the RadioShack R/C battery wall chargers, then yes it will work. I own a 7.2v Ni-CD and a 9.6v Ni-MH and have used the same charger for both no problem, just switch the charger for CD or MH.

If that's not the case, at the very least Gannon should be right, and you should watch that battery. If it gets too warm to hold comfortably unplug.
