What version to buy?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

What version to buy?

Post by sammy »

Ok, several games have many versions available (NTSC/PAL/NTSC for Japan). I'm planning on buying secret of mana, but what version should I choose? I have a PAL snes and an NTSC snes. My tv can run 60Hz and 50Hz and the consoles are both connected with Composite Video. Pal would probably be cheaper since it wouldn't have to be shipped from the US, but I think it might be letterboxed. I also heard that the text isn't as readable as the NTSC version...

There's other games too where I don't know what to choose. Like Illusion of Time (Illusion of Gaia = PAL).

Why couldn't they just make 1 format like the gameboy games? :x :x

Well I'm not sure about which version you should get(if that text thing true then grab the NTSC), but the reason for the different versions is because of the TV's(and region lockouts to a point).

Since portable's don't need a TV there's no reason to make them different.
SNESp - 100%
Protable X - 15% - I need money :(

But some consoles are region free. Like the CD-I for example. I thought the Wii was gonna be region free as well...

the Europeans and Australians can still import. They would just have to import games as well.
