How in the world do you make an animated GIF? I searched and searched google, but found nothing that simply puts it out there. Any help?

Animation Shop 3 is the best program IMO. Theres many others but none as good as that one.

Try Microsoft GIF Animator.

Adobe ImageReady IMO is best.

I personally prefer GIF Movie Gear. It has advanced features, and is extremely easy to use. Also has a really good guide included in the help file.

I have that. But Adobe is expensive.

If you have any Adobe video stuff (Premiere, After Effects, etc.) you can export a movie as a gif.

The latest version of Photoshop (Photoshop and ImageReady are one package) is almost $100 cheaper than the previous version. Plus, for the huge feature set (not even including the amazing things they added in CS2), it's well worth it.

Know this though: animated GIFs aren't all they're cracked up to be. They're fine for simple things (like pixelart) and grayscale images, but they often get too large, too fast. Three or four full 256-color (or shade) frames will probably push it over the avatar size limit for most forums. Smaller, simpler images will be fine though (I have a 5-frame chibi House avatar in my gallery).

The GiMP is the best free program for image editing.

MS GIF Animator, from my experience, will use the default Web or Windows pallette, which looks horrendous.

Avoid AdGif. It puts a banner ad for itself in the image.

The best commercial program is Adobe ImageReady, which comes bundled with Photoshop. If PS 7 is too expensive for you, look for PS 5.5 on eBay. Almost every copy I see there costs less than 50 bucks. (Don't worry, 5.5 does most of the things 7 can do, which is still more than most people need.)

In fact, <a href="http://cgi.ebay.com/Adobe-Photoshop-5-5 ... em">Here's a copy of Photoshop 5.5</a> on eBay with a "Buy It Now" price of $40, including a book. Definitely worth it if you have an eBay account.

I use the free "easy GIF animator".

Let's just say it lives up to its name well.
