Programming Music

Awhile ago, on like digg or something, I saw people like programming music on the fly or something. THey would have a computer hooked up to a prjector and a sound system, and they would program a song in front of a crowd while it was playing, or something. Does anyone know what this is called and any guides to do it?

I think I saw what you're talking about on hackaday. It was still in development, unreleased. A release version may come sometime in the future though. Or, I could be thinkg of a different program...

It wasn't a program, they were like programming. YOu could see them typing on a projector, and it would have all the programming stuff. Pretty sure I saw it on youtube.

I'd say it probably has to do with like music generating algorithms of some sort..

Procedural generation

Many size-restricted intros use procedural techniques to generate content such as textures, 3D objects and music. Some of the ideas were pioneered by The Black Lotus in their PC intros such as Jizz and Stash. Nowadays, the achievements of the Farbrausch group are well-known.

Procedural generation is often disguised as compression in order to increase the amusement value. See, for example, the end scrollers of The Product by Farbrausch and Zoom3 by AND.

It was on hackaday, and seems to be similar to what you described (though not exactly, so I can't be sure).
