Can we enable post deleting? Members, vote now!

Please? Come on guys, how many posts do you see that say, "Whoops, I accidentally put my post through twice. [or three times] Can a mod delete this for me?" And no offence, but the mods rarely do it.

So don't you think it would be easier if we could delete it ourselves?

What do all think? Yay or Ney? And please no Holy Grail "Nee" jokes... this is a serious thread.

I screwed up a post today and it was deleted quickly when I asked.

I don't usually find much of a need to totally delete posts, since we can edit.

Nope I say. the occurance of a double post is almost always deleted by a mod within a day.

Here are some examples of posts/threads that weren't deleted. These were just from the first three pages of a search for the word "delete". One of them was mine from a few days ago!

I try to delete them as I see them in the forums I can delete posts in.

The problem seems to be that people either are too impatient to let the "submit" button do its thing and push it more than once, or they are used to double-clicking and accidentally do so for the Submit button. Modifying the Submit button to disable itself after it's clicked, like ImageShack's, would help fix this.

I vote no, because if someone wants to "take back" something they said or they get in trouble, they can delete that post and claim it never happened.

Just edit the duplicate post with "Double post. Delete please." or something along those lines and we'll delete it.

Yep, whenever I come accross a double post (or someone who hit the quote button instead of edit) I delete the duplicates/fix the quote.

I just think it would be easier for you mods if we could do it ourselves. I understand the concern of people deleting their stupid posts and claiming they never did it, but I personally think this is a minor side-effect.

I vote yes. They should beable to delete a post only if its an accedental double post, but the option to delete should be gone when someone has replyed.

Hmm... that makes sense. But lets compromise. I say, they can delete a post, whether it's a double post or not, (I don't think kind of option that can be done here anyway...) as long as nobody has replied since the post in question.

Maybe, but only if the user has double-posted. If it's just something they wrote and then wanted to take back, they shouldn't have that option. They should have thought before they submitted. So, if there are two+ posts in a row by a user, he/she should have the option of deleting the latter. It would also make it easier on the mods.

In my opinion, I see more negatives than positives with this. I think the occasional double post is annoying, yes, but it usually gets edited out anyway! And anyone who wrote something offensive wouldn't delete it themselves. Just look at what you post before you post it, and only click the submit button once. I've only double posted once anyway.
