Scored a couple of GameGears

Post by A_Username »

Scored a couple of GameGears out of a Pawn America the other day. They both came with 12 games total, 2 TV Tuners, 2 Game Genies, 2 wall warts, 2 Interact Handy Plugs (Play Gameboy/GameGear in car), 2 magnifyer things, and two of those Suitcase things that say Sega GameGear on it with pockets to keep all of the stuff in. Anything cool I can do with these? I was thinking of using the AV in function on the TV Tuners and using them for screens for my portables. I had never seen a GameGear in the wild before and thought 2 and all this stuff for $40.00 was a good deal. What do you think?

i think great deal. my brother got one on ebay with the AC adaptor, the bag, and 6 games for $32. you have to get an AC adaptor though. also i read some where that the TV tuner doesnt work on certain game gears, you can figure out which ones by looking at the serial number. if it starts with a letter, it wont work on that one. i dont know if thats true, though.

He bought it off of an individual, who apparently was selling other things, and it was used. Pawn Shop's are just year 'roud yard sales, that will also buy your stuff.

How To tell if your Game Gear is compatible with the TV tuner:
look at the pictures of the game gears on the left -- notice that the older Game Gear has red, green, and blue colored ovals above where it says "Game Gear" If the ovals are white, then your Game Gear is incompatible with the TV tuner.
From GameGear Wiki Page
Support for the TV Tuner was removed in later Game Gear units due to a lawsuit (if the system's serial number begins with a letter, not a numeral, the TV Tuner will probably not function with that particular unit).

The TV tuner works on RGB GameGears, they have the red green blue ovals above the GameGear logo. they look like this.

The incompatible ones look like this.

The 2 TV tuners for $40 would still be a good deal, nice find.

From what I understand he got it at a pawnshop. I don't think Pawnshops are yardsales. So thanks for that stupid comment. :D
