NEC: UPDATE ONE
Well as i wait for a good mini-snes price i am building a low-budget arcade machine.
This includes :
A nes (interchangeable games)
A screen or if i want to be even cheaper a tv (but with everything but screen hidden inside.
2 nes advantage pads ( i will modify them for only start, select,a,b and the stick itself.
an extension cord to turn everything on in the flip of a switch.
a wooden frame
plastic, plexiglass or aluminum to put over it.
a flourescent light to light up logo.
==========================================
Update one:
Heh this has gone from a cheap project to a project costing as much if not more than the projects in bens book! At least it will be worth it in the end.
So far i have gathered various materials...mostly the stuff for the NES. I have finished drawing it all out and am currently getting ahold of all the materials. Oh and my dog has tapeworm...
The Marquee alone will be almost 70 dollars!!!!!!
i took time to chart out an estimated price chart.
Wood: 160$
Paint: 10$
Display: 82$ (this one im sure of!)
Marque: 70$
Nes: 40$ (already got it)
nes advantage pads (x2): 5$ each
Total:almost four hundred dollars!
Of course i will get the marquee done last (just so i can play it before i earn more money)

I had a computer monitor that would turn off sometimes and required a good whack to come back on.XPCportables wrote:I have one that Ill send to you for free, all you have to pay is shipping. I have to get rid of it because it is taking up closet space. the only thing is, it doesn't work 100% sometimes it will display black and white instead of color, a good whack on the side fixes this problem though.

yea there are a bunch of speed bumps along the way but with some problem solving i should be able to figure it out.
also since i am going to my summer house i wont have pictures until the end of summer. I dont have a digital camera here and my dad (who comes down on weekends but ussually has to work) needs the camera.
I also need to figure out a way to get this thing back to my REGULAR house by the end of summer...with two german sheaperds,my mom, sister, xbox 360 and whatever we have packed in at the end of the summer.most likely the LAST weekend my dad comes down- i will ask him to stick it in the back of his truck.

Re: a simple project i plan on doing...
alright i could use some help with one thing.
How could i get the NES (original) and the TV to turn on at the same time without flipping two switches or pushing two buttons.the only thing i could come up with is hook em both to an extension cable and turn them both on with that switch (the one on the cable)

The problem I see with powering both units by a single switch is that evry time you turn off the NES to swap games, you're turning off the TV as well. Some old thrift store TV's may not like that.

WELL...
since that was the 80's i geuss i will be the one to do it in the first years of 2000.(comon its still early in 2000-its only 2006!)
Thats a nice thing that person built though.
funny though...He built it between 7th and 8th grade...same with me.
just about 20 years diffrence.
Come to think of it...it was ridiculous to think this was a "newer" idea.
I mean the NES is about 20 years old (give or take a year or two) Surely in that time someonee, somewhere has thought of this. And they had.
also if you are wondering what NEC stands for You get
"Nintendo Entertainment" and replace "System" with "Cabinet"
"Nintendo Entertainment Cabinet"
NEC
AND here is an updated picture. The last design would have made it to short. Now it shall be taller. ( i want it to be five foot 8 inches tall to six feet tall)

Well i want this to look nice so i have decided it will no longer be a "pinch the pennies" project.
20'' magnavox screen---90$
MDO Plywood---8 foot x 4 foot board for 30.00 ( ill need two)
=======================================
i also need cheap plywood to make the game slots.
There will be 25 of them each 3cm's wider than an nes cartridge and 3cm's taller (when cartridge is layed on back)
