Most of what I learned comes from years of tinkering with things, and of course the internet. Google is your friend!

I learned to solder mostly from tinkering. (With a 60w iron no less!) It basically comes down to "Ok when it looks smooth and not shiny it will hold OK" and "OUCH! Ok you don't hold that end..."

I had an electronics shop class in middle school, and another in high school, and then I went to a 2 year tech school for computer networking that required 2 semesters of electronics with labs.

the only one that did anything for soldering was the class in middle school, and the teacher didn't really show us how to solder, he just threw a pcb and some resistors and leds at us and told us to go solder them all together. As a result, I didn't really know how to solder properly until about a year out of college.

the high school and college classes mostly focused on designing and building the circuits, but we just used solderless breadboards for that.
