I'm making my first portable with the original playstation and I need help on how to power it with batteries. I don't know much on soldering either.

Edit: You don't even have to follow that about getting a specific RC car battery connector, etc. You just need to cut the end off the power connector and splice in your battery's positive and negative. Then plug it into the back of your PSOne. Hooray. Assuming you've got the right voltage battery.

You have to do the following:
Look up the pinouts for your PSX revision's power connection. Later (SCPH7502, SCPH9XXX) rev's use 5 pins, earlier use 7. Despite the pin difference, both use the same voltages, but the 7 pin has an extra 3.5v and ground.
So, the original PSX's used 8v and 3.5v. If you're smart about all of it, you'll regulate out both voltages using buck/boost converters for much longer battery life, but if you want to quickly get a working power supply, you can just use the ~8v from a typical NiCd/NiMh RC battery and use an adjustable voltage regulator with a pot to make the regulated voltage adjustable. Just try not to overvolt the 3.5v lead, it'll cook the input controller. I speak from personal experience on that one.
