CURRENT in a psone screen.. how much does it actually use?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

CURRENT in a psone screen.. how much does it actually use?

The PSU for the psone screen says 3.0A..

how much is ACTUALLY used.. and how much is actually used after the white LED mod?

I need to know if it's low enough for me to build a little circuit to draw it's power directly from a commodore 64 power supply, or what... .

700mA on average w/o LED mod.
450mA on average w/ LED mod.

The figures vary a bit, but generally it is 350mA for a 3-led modded screen, and 750mA with the original backlight. I've verified these numbers myself.

The reason the PSone LCD adapter is 3 amps, is because it has to run both the screen and the console at the same time.

I would avoid using a C= power brick, because they are quite cranky and will crap out if your AC line isn't the best.

You might as well get a premade 3.3v regulator from TI and run it straight from the psone lcd wall wart.

If you use the adapter with just the screen, it cranks out enough current to mess up the colour on your screen (not forever, though).

Your screen must be screwed up then. The screen only draws as much power as you need, it doesn't matter if you run it off a 800mA wall wart or a 1.21 gigawatt microwave power plant. The wall wart is just designed to provide enough for both simaltaneously.

If the AC adapter isn't regulated (it would probably say if it was) then it might be putting out too high of a voltage with only the load from the screen. It could also be that your adapter was defective, or like marshallh said your screen is just screwed up.
