just starting my first portable... help?
I just started making my first portable snes, and i'm trying to follow ben's book's instructions. So far, i've removed the power and reset switches, the dc jack, and the regulator (i have not removed the A/V jack yet). I jumped the power switch to "on", then i used a regulator and attached the +5v out to the corresponding spot on the snes. I connected 8 AAs to the regulator and connected an AV cable to a regular tv, just to see if it worked. The screen flickers on the tv for an instant, and that's it. Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? I was hoping it would run as normal on the tv, because basically i've only modded it to run off batteries instead of the wall. thanks
is there any way to test if the amp output of my batteries are enough? the book says the snes only takes ~350 mA, which seems like a load that alkalines can handle. I tried it with a 9.6v nimh 1800 mAh battery, but it did the same thing.
also, when connecting the battery to the regulator, it's safe to ground the negative end on any of the big metal areas around the edge of the mobo, right? thanks for any help

OK check, if they are fresh AA's, that's what happened to me. Also, are you putting the 8 V. into a regulator, then putting that output into the input of the SNES regulator. If so, just put the 8V. into the input on the SNES regulator, for the regulator starts at (?)6V.+

Note, Linear regulators cut the amperage proportionally to how much they cut the voltage. Original voltage/output voltage=Original Amperage/Output amperage. So that cuts it as well! (I think) I know it cuts amperage though. But that is prolly how. <_<

youre thinking of transformers or dc/dc converters (which are able to provide MORE current proportional to the voltage drop, or LESS in proportion to a voltage increase).
