Quick Question: Battery not working?

I have 3 C cells at 7.58 Volts, hooked up correctly to the PSOne screen. But it doesn't turn on. The wall plug and such works, but I want to get it working off a battery. Is 3 C's enough amperage?

What is a good temporary household alternative to power the screen?

I dont think it is enough amps cause i tryed the same with some D cells and it wouldnt ever work.

Would AA's work? I saw a picture of JeffSlot's in the Portable Screens forum running off 5 AA's. I think.
