I've been browsing the forums for a while, and now that I've actually got a project to work on (and a question), I've finally made an account.

maybe I'm just being a n00b, but everybody says to power a power player NOAC with four AA batteries, but the little electronics that I know tells me that that adds up to 6 volts (1.5+1.5+1.5+1.5), while the noac uses 5 volts. If someone could explain this to me, I would appreciate it. (I've been wondering about it for a while)

Welcome to the forums, it sounds like you'll be a great contribution here. :D

Apparently, the NOAC is not very picky about voltages and can take either 6 or 5. I only have the PCB for the NOAC, so I don't know how it is normally powered, but people have been saying that it is 4 AA's. So in short, yes you can use 4 AA's, or simply have a voltage regulator that outputs 5V (7805).

thanks! how picky are other systems/devices?

the noac comes with a wall wart and a little box that fits into the "cartridge slot" of the n64-like controller, which says it holds four AA's but four don't seem to fit... maybe it meant AAA's

4 AAs work just fine, as Weebl said. It uses a 7805 regulator, so anything from about 6 to 12 volts should be fine. As for the other systems, since they're not pirated, they ususally like exact voltages, but again, there is some range because most use 7805s. Good luck!

keep in mind that alakine batteries will drop in voltage over time; by the time they are dead they are less than 1v each.

so are you sure it has a 7805? because those drop out at like 7.something volts.

No, the NOAC itself does not have any kind of power regulator. It takes a direct input of 5-6 V. DC. (Period) :P

Oooops! I forgot, I installed a 7805 to mine! Demon is right, it takes 5-6V raw power only, unless you shove a regulator on there. The power regulator is on the controller board.

Doesn't it have to be 1.2v more than the output, so 6.2v?

would it be possible to take the regulator off of the controller board and use that?
