Well, what are you using to play the video files?

Try Quicktime. IIRC, it does a good job of keeping aspect ratios.

Maybe if you changed its FourCC code, the ratio ordeal would correct itself.

go to this site, download virtualdub and if you can open the video in that, follow one of the site's tutorials to change the format to another one (avi, mpg, etc.)

try playing in the Video Lan Client. it's a superior media player.

Just convert to Xvid. I kicked that limitation years ago. As did Divx I thought. If you have an old version you will need to remove it before installing the new one to ensure that it replaces it.

It has no limitations. Sounds like it doesnt like your file. Can't you just resize it with any codec and then convert if if neccasary.

Or you could encode it to mpg in tmpgenc. i'm not sure, but i think it takes any aspect ratio and slaps some black bars on it if needed. Then you can just burn it on a DVD/VCD.
