.MTV Video Format

Post by joevennix »

So my uncle who works overseas got me one of these MP4 players from China or something for free. It's pretty cool, has a lot of features, a cool lookin thing. Anyways, it turns out it plays .mtv files, not .mp4. I've researched the mtv file format a bit, and I've found that all it is is a frame of a raw picture file followed by one frame of an mp3 file, and it keeps repeating. Simple stuff, but effective.

Anyways, my question is, has anyone seen any software having to do with this .mtv format for the Mac OS? I looked around, and nothing. I can't use a Windows computer for almost a month, since it isn't at my house right now. Anyone know anything?

Blegh. I can't find any software at all for Mac, for MTV or AMV. Looks like I'll have to wait.

EDIT@dan: Jesus Christ. This has been debated over and over again. After using both platforms for long amounts of time, I decided I wanted a Mac as my primary station. I'm sorry if your views differ, this is just my personal opinion. I'm sorry if you somehow interpreted it as me saying Macs pwn all or something. No. I use a Windows computer as well, just not as much, and as of now I don't have acess to it, so I am out of options. Your post was completely unnecessary.

The MTV format is an altered version of I believe an MPEG-4 avi file. Unfortunately, there is no mac software for it, only the cruddy windows software that comes with the player.

Most of the China mp3-players use AMV, which is similar to the MTV format.

You can find more info about the players there.

If it all ends up working out, let me know. I am interested in buying one of these, and even trading my ipod min (1G) for one. The thing that puts me off is the fact that they apparently use non-standard formats for music and movies if you buy a video-enabled one.
