PS2M Motherboard Fried- Cooling Problem

my PS2 Portable has been subject to overheating, a costly problem which unfortunetly has gone off of the list of priorities, and now that school is getting out i plan on getting my 4th MOBO of the V5 PS2. I have pics that show the unit working with a modded board, and that has the RGB fix for the LCD screen.

I NEED to solve the overheating problemo ASAP.

i plan on cutting small slots in the front and top of the case so that it can breath more easily. I CANNOT afford another overheated MOBO. Please give me some tips/ ideas for the most EFFICIENT way to solve this problem.

After this is done, it will be needing a battery, thus making it 95% done.

was lookin at your pics, very impressive mi amigo, cooling problems eh? my suggestions are get as much heatsink surface area you can fit, vent holes are good, and add a fan if you dont have one, or more of them if you do, circulate that air!

thanks!!! i took the heatsink out, one to reduce weight, and two to put an internal battery in. I put 2 small radioshck fans in right on top of the EEngine and let it sit for 4 hours, and it stayed a nice warm temp. Seems to be working fine, but i have no heatsink, and im thinking about buying those awesomely small laptop cooling fans to reduce the noise, and maximize air flow. i'll get back to testing w/the heatsink. thanks

Ouch.....ya, a heatsink is a must on almost every portable. Those regulators can get HOT! And a fan definitely helps. You'll sacrifice some playtime, but I'd say it's worth it, seeing as your portable won't fry that way

i think if i get a new mobo off ebay, it'll be my 5th one. ouch.

I dont know about you guys, but when i make something like this, it usually takes TONS of cash, LOTS of time, an incredible amount of time wasted looking up new mobos, and finally putting it all together. wow. I think putting it together is almost 5% of the job. Anyway, i plan to have this think up and running smoothly when i get the money for a $100 li-ion battery for the thing, and putting together a screen case.

I dont know how many other successful PS2p's have been made, but when i make this thing, im going all out.

yeah those lithium ions will give you enough room for the heatsinks they are much smaller than most other batteries
