OK, I'm trying to mod the SNES to play imports.

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

I found the guide here at http://www.gamesx.com/importmod/sneslockout.htm

I was wondering if I could keep the switch at the point where I solder the wire to and break up the signal to the point with a switch. Would that work?

Found this site, there's an adapter that supposedly says you can play PAL games on your NTSC SNES.

If you're proposing what I think you are, it very well may work. Also, since the SNES seems to have a lot of similar technology, to the NES, and the pin number you sever is the same, I must wonder if it is similar, if not the same, technology as in the NES.

Also, to make your SNES play all games, you must remove two small plastic tabs inside the SNES so the games physically fit. (Not the grey tabs connected to the "Eject" mechanism, I mean the ones that are part of the case molding. If you can't find them, which should be easy, just look for them where the grooves in the cartridge would line up. These grooves allow the game to fit, and stop games which lack the grooves, such as Super Famicom titles.
Warranty-Voiding fun!

Depends; what games are you trying to play? I know for a fact there are a handful of great games only released in English in the PAL format that won't play on the NTSC SNES regardless of mods/converters. If you REALLY want a powerful converter with no technical modification done to your SNES, I recommed buying a Pro Action Replay MK2 or MK3 for the SNES. You'll still have to snip the gray tabs, but it's essentially a "superconverter". It'll even run those sneaky games that can recognize normal conversion and mods, like Terranigma and SMBRPG.
