Ultimate Sony Fanboy Ben Comments on E3

Post by benheck »

Well by now we've heard the annoucements RE: the Nintendo and PS3. Microsoft doesn't really matter as their console is already out.

Here are my thoughts:

1) Who cares if the PS3 controller "rips off" the Wii? It is my opinion that motion-based gaming without a frame of reference is worthless regardless. Sure it works for light gun games, but if something is triggered by "moving the controller sideways" well, How much sideways? How fast? It's all flimsy.

2) If the PS3 controller doesn't have rumble that totally sucks. Yesterday I was playing Oblivion on the 360. When you hit someone with a sword, or block a swing, you feel it with rumble. It's become such second nature for a game to have it, not having it will definitely feel like something's missing. Sony really screwed up with that lawsuit.

3) Microsoft doesn't really need to do anything at E3, save maybe show Halo 3. Right now they're poised to take a big bite out of Sony, THANKS to Sony and I think the Wii won't put up a challenge either. Wuth the stream of hot titles on 360 coming out they just have to "keep on keepin' on"

4) The pricing of the PS3, while not as high as some predicted, are still higher than the rest of us might have thought. This could REALLY hurt them, especially considering the 360 will be quite available by Christmas. I can't think of anyone, myself included, who will drop $500 for a game system. (Sure I'll build arcade machines but that's different ;)

5) Microsoft doesn't even need to lower the price of the 360 this fall. They probably were planning too, but are busting out champaigne tonight because now they don't. The price of the Wii isn't a concern either as a lot of people will consider it a "toy"

All in all, with this new info, it's quite possible Microsoft could either give Sony a very tight run for their money, more than people thought, or win this generation altogether. And they say GTA 4 (I'm sure they mean 7) will release on both systems at the same time? I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd have no problem getting a 360. The controllers are great. Last gen, I'd cut off my own hands before using a Xbox controller. I've probably played 3 hours total of Xbox 1 over the years simply for that reason. Now that reason is gone!

I don't care about Blu-Ray because I hardly watch movies. Maybe 3 a month. This has always been Sony's "generation to loose" and I think now they might do it.

Regardless (as I spew my usual anti-Nintendo) Wii will be 3rd place. There's such a thing as TOO cheap, and it'll be seen as an elaborate TV-games type toy. Sound from the controller? TOY. What an amazing "final secret"

E3 it away in this topic. Go nuts. But please give examples and real-world data of why you think a console will win. I love Sony stuff and have just admitted they might lose (be 2nd place) I'd appreciate equal candor and realistic considerations from everyone. As far as Microsoft, surely they don't need another monopoly but... sigh... they've got the money and Sony's mistakes might just hand them one.

i was really dissapointed with the PS3 price and loss of rumble. if people can get an XBOX360 for $100 less than PS3, it'll really hurt sony. but Wii seems like it may be interesting, i'll have to check it out.

it seems like Nintendo is going for the classic console approach to the Wii. I find the Xbox and PS3 are more personal computer based, as where Wii is a device that will keep up with my Genesis and NES. Of course the PS3 and Xbox are entertaining, like any media center should be. I find the Wii to be something that is more of a get all the guys together for a Wii party, or everyone get excited about smackin around some tennis balls, rather than everyone take turns playing GTA and watch. I find the PS3 and Xbox software and playability to be less engaging. The Wii wont ever not have a game that is worth playing.

Well, Yesterday i saw my reason to get a job this summer, not just for money for buying the Wii. I saw the MGS4 preview (the new one), it looks good. Merrl, Col. Campbel, and raiden are back, and someone takes thier own life, ill give you a clue; his real name is Dave, and he is voiced by David Hayter.

The thing about the PS3 is that Sony isn't focusing on just a gaming or media center, much like the 360 has been focused. Sony integrated a Linux distrobution, the next generation optical drive and native backwards compatibility. Those things don't come cheap but Sony thinks that these are things that will help them win.

Now we all know that not everyone owns a computer in the U.S. let alone the world. Sony wants to change that, by having the PS3 act as a desktop. This might get some kids to convice their parents they're not just getting a video game console their getting a computer that could help thier child in school.

Blue-Ray, nothing new here. Sony had the DVD-ROM as part of the PS2. That game them the chance to sell the PS2 as a DVD player. Sony is doing the same thing here, the only difference is that Blue-Ray is still not out as a media or a standalone player.

Last I think is funny, the PS3 will support CD-RW/DVD+-RW/Blue-Ray-ROM. Play Playstation games and PS2 games on one system with the PS3. That's one hell of a console, but I don't think that compatibility with PSone is going to sell an extra system.

Sony is trying to take over the house, Microsoft is trying to take over the entertainment center, and yeah Nintedo just wants to put out another video game console.

That had to be the most biased comment I have ever heard about the wii you have no imagination. Yes I am a nintendo fanboy but I wanted to see if the PS3 could pull off something new too but it didn't so I stick with nintendo.

Well I wasn't going to get a new gen system but if I did it would have to be a Wii, and Wii jokes are a lot better if you have a Wii. The main reason I like the Wii is they are going back to the basics when all you needed was 8 buttons not the ~14 and 2 joysticks (and no rumble). The motion thing seems like a good idea b/c most people move the controller when playing a game and now it will actual do something, you still like retarded but now there is a reason.

I will buy a Wii, play with it, and enjoy it. Hopefully they still plan to have it in colors.

Im pretty confindant that PS3 will come out on top in the UK

as i mentioned in one of the other threads (of which there are now 3 i think but i digress...) that Nintendo just isnt as popular here as it is in the US, gamecube games have one shelf while xobox ps2 and pc have whole walls.

Almost everyone ive asked has said they're getting a PS3 or they already have a 360

when i mention the wii they dismiss it as a "toy"

however the price might play to its advantage, a lot of people did say that they were going to get a PS£ first and then when the wii price drops even more buy one because they're so cheap "just to see what they're like"

An off-topic question directed at Extreme Jesus:

You live on the east side of the pond, right? And your currency is measured in "£" whatever those are. Do your keyboards have a key for that symbol like we have $ on ours?

Here's our shift+3, also called "pound sign" "#"
And I've got a $ on shift+4. Even though # is technically the "pound sign" here, it mostly stands for "number" (#1=Number 1). Laymen refer to it as "the tic-tac-toe sign" but then again tic-tac-toe has another name in Britain and... AAAAAAGGG!
