TI-83 GTA
my friend and I are determined to program a version of grand theft auto on a ti-83 graphing calculator at first our idea was to make a simple text rpg sort of thing in TI-83 basic but I dont see how we can get it to work so we might have to result to using asm and making an overly complicated graphical version
I dont see how we can get either ways to work with the very limited graphical capibilities, and i dont want to spend 3 years developing a game for a calc
my main question is does anyone see a way to get the text rpg to work (with a gta theme of course) or the graphical way?

It wouldn't be terribly difficult to code a text RPG in TI-83 basic, you just have to know what you're doing. And if you can't figure out how to do it in TI-83 basic, I doubt you'll have the ability to do it in Z80 ASM very well.
I'm not trying to be offensive, its just that you seem to have set an unrealistic goal for yourselves.

Heh, technically "Crossover Quest 2" has been in development for like 5 years now. Its the sequel to my smash hit "Crossover Quest" written in Ti-83 basic. I haven't actually written any code for it in 2 or 3 years, but I did whin a one of those new Ti-83p silver edditions at a raffel, maybe it was an omen?3 years developing a game for a calc
Warrenties were meant to be voided

I my self have little knowledge on programming but my friend's dad is a mathematician and he teaches him programming in c and c++ and stuffMajorLag wrote:It wouldn't be terribly difficult to code a text RPG in TI-83 basic, you just have to know what you're doing. I also need an idea as to how to create a text rpg gta style

Grand Theftendo is being made by knowing things. Like, how 6502 ASM works, and how graphics work, and all of that good stuff. I mean, he made special tools for doing it. It's not like you can just sit down and whip up a Grand Theft Auto game in a week. Well, if you're really good and ambitious you could, but it'd probably not be all that worth playing.
Anyway, I'd say if you don't know C or BASIC, much less ASM, you're in for a world of hurt. Sorry.
Maybe you should find people who know about Z80 ASM and stuff and work as a group? Toss ideas around and stuff. Outside of that, not sure what to tell you.
The text RPG thing isn't too hard for TI-83s, really. Just a lot of text display code and a lot of jumps and labels. But it's always good to have an idea of where you're going with it, and odds are you're just gonna end up writing a calculator Choose Your Own Adventure book.
