Dremel Questions

Okay, after building a few portables without a dremel, I figured I need one. However, I'm far too broke at the moment to afford such a pricy piece of hardware, so I saw this at Home Depot; a Dremel knockoff by Black & Decker. Here's a link:
www.homedepot.com (Go to shop, then power tools, then Black & Decker. It's the only one!)
It can use Dremel bits, comes with 30 bits of it's own to start off, and it's cheap to boot! At my Home Depot, it's $29.99. Does it look good?

Do you have a decent air compressor? If so, get a pneumatic die grinder. Put your compressor in your garage and run a hose to your dremel. It's much quieter (dremels are extremely noisy by nature))

Never mind, actually, I searched a bit and it turned out to be...well, a lot

. 30K is it's max, and that's plenty. I say get it, if you have the money. It looks like it's worth it

No, I don't have an air compressor. I wish i did, though

@Gamelver: Yup, that's the one! I may pick it up, but if a Dremel is that much better, I may save up for that instead.

Like I said, I have one of those, it does it's job, even though it's tied down by a cord and has a crummy speed control system (slow, medium, or fast). But other than that, it works fine. It comes with all the tips you need, some clamps, and all the Dremel tips fit on it.

You could always build a throttle for your rotary tool with a pot on one side of the motor. That way you could have precise control over speed.

I like that, it's non-intrusive and can be used for multiple items.

I have this Dremel, it really needs a dimmer throttle, because its onboard throttle is horrible.

I have a nice Lithium Ion cordless Dremel and it is great. It didnt cost a lot because they were a new item and they were only like $50 at Home Depot about 6 months ago.

A little off topic but I was thinking about ripping the battery pack apart to see how small and awesomez the batteries would be for a portable. But I only have one battery. If anyone does this, please lemme know.

Its 10.8V 1.0Ah <---super awesome for a portable if the batteries are small enough.

Well, depends what portable you are trying to make. For me, 1 amp seems pretty low, seeing as my highest is 3.3 amps, (SNESp, 6 freakin' hours of play time!

) and lowest being 2 amps (various NESp's). 1 amp may be good for, say, an NOAC portable w/a Hip Gear or Intec, but if it's used anywhere else, you'll get minimal playtime.

Well, taking that apart was easy.

Unfortunately, it is not the stack of AAs I was hoping for. I can't use these for a portable, 9.6v/700mah (4.8v/1400mah) doesn't do much for a large portable and these are gigantic. I'll just build a charger for it I guess.

Hmm...I just checked the size and they are a a little bigger around than AA's and they are about 2.75" long. There are 3 of them. And yes, 1Ah is a little low, but I guess the higher voltage makes up for it. Plus you could install them in parallel with some more.
