My TV.......

Has been acting strange since I first got it but it's not a big deal so I ignored it but it keeps eating me that it doesn't work quite right, I have had it since December 05 and I'm not sure if it still has a warranty on it or not or if it ever did, I only bought it at walmart.

Here's the problem: in cable, component, and composite modes it will distort vertical straight lines, casing them to appear to be bent at certain points. for instance the ERSB notice at the beginning of Knights of the Old Republic II: Sith Lords appears to bulge unevenly at the sides.

Here are my only explanations: Either the crt was damageded from having sat fairly close to my old crt monitor, or the distortion is caused by the fact that it is one of those fakey-flatscreens with the crt inset and flatened.

any who does any one with experience with crt televisions have any ideas what is wrong or how to fix it. (my first action would have been simply to degaus it but like all most modern tv sets there is no button for it on the case)

Most likely it's just a crappy TV. What brand is it?
You might (big IF) be able to open it up and find some pots for pincushion, vhold etc, but be careful in there. You can be killed even if it's been unplugged for weeks.

See if you can find a degauss button (or menu selection, as is commonly found on CRT computer monitors), or you can manually degauss the screen by connecting the degaussing coil to 120 VAC. This may solve it, or it may do nothing. Whatever you do BE CAREFUL. CRTs store over 50 kV, which could kill you with a single touch.

If you know what you're doing, you can manually discharge the CRT, but this is dangerous without the right tools. The advantage is that working with the CRT will be much safer afterwards. Justâ€¦be careful.

It's a Sanyo but it was a pretty cheap model so Marshall is probably right.

I'm not even sure it can be opened, I think the two halves may be clipped together with those annoying spring tabs. Even if it's not, I'm probably not going to open it since I would probably do more harm than good poking around and it generally only affects still images and commercials (I have only ever noticed any Ill affects in games once or twice and always in the same predicable spots in the menus or huds)
