9v works but 7.8v doesn't? (PSOne Screen Help)

I have a battery that's rated at 8.4v, which is ok for the PSOne screen. But sometimes the battery gets up to 9v, that is pushing it on the PSOne screen...

So I found a 7.8v point on the PTH08080, and hooked it up to the screen. as soon as voltage goes in, the screen lights up really bright, and dies down in brightness along with a loud screeching noise.

Why would this happen? Does it have anything to do with current?

ok wait. so did you adjust the 08080 to 7.8v with a resistor, or did you just find some random part of the board that had 7.8v...?

i dunno what the problem is..

I found a random part of the board, I think it was a resistor or a cap...

prooobably not a good idea. it could be anything, but whatever it is, its probably not designed to supply the cureent needed to run the screen. it will also totally screw with the dc-dc converter, and possily destroy it. yeah. you can just get a pth780000

Eh, I've run out of free samples, but, you're saying that if I supply it with ~7.5v then the screen will be ok?

Oh man, my multimeter shows that my 7.5v NiCd's are 9v on a full charge, maybe I should be worrying too?

7.5 isnt a valid voltage. do you mean 7.2? (or were they sold as 7.5v?) it doent matter either way, 6 cells of nicd would probably not make it up to 9v, even on a very full charge... well maybe they could, but it wouldnt last more that like 5 minutes into the discharge.

is it a 6 or 7 cell pack?

anyways, if the screen dosent look messed up dont worry about it.
