Inspired by the work of Ben!!!
Hi everyone
I have been following Ben's work for the past few years. Now I see that many others are creating their own portables, so I figure, why not.
I will probably do a SNESp first, since the carts are smaller, and it's very easy to buy lots of games for it. Eventually I would love to make a PC Engine DUO portable, with the CD spinning out of the rear. Portable Dracula X!!
Before I begin, I was wondering what were the major problems most of you would encounter and how you resolved them (other than deciding on the casing of course). I've read about controllers not working properly to poorly lit screens. Also, does putting a DC supply automatically bypass your batteries, or did you have to make a switch for that?
Lastly, how do you show off your bad boy!
Do you bring it with you to work/school/on public transportation/to the movies to kill time? What kinds of looks do you get?
And how much has someone offered you for your new creation?
I will hopefluly start my project as soon as I can get a mini SNES and a cheap PSOne 5" LCD or the 6.8" LCD I read about in the portable TV threads.
Thank you all in advance for any suggestions and tips!

Gamelvr said when he went on a plane to somewhere the airport people were wondering what the heck he had on his carry on.
My cheesy dialogue.
"Whats THIS!" (Airport person)
"Ummm... A N64p..." (Gamelvr)
"Is that some kind of bomb?"
"Um... No its a portable N64."
"Sure it is... And I suppose you made it yourself?"
"Yeah. Actually I did."
"Right..."
"No really see... I'll turn it on..."
"Oh no you don't! I wont have anyone activating bombs!"
"Its NOT A BOMB!"
"Thats what they all say. Sorry, Im going to have to confinscate this."
"Noooooo..."
Personally, I havn't finished my vcsp yet so I have nothing but some wire and some burn from a soldering iron to show off.
Also, regarding the SNESp you are going to make. Ben's book is comming out in feburary and it shows you haw to make all the P42 portables. If I were you Id wait for that. It shows you step by step instructions on how to make 8 portables, including 2 snesps. (what a odd word... snesps...)
Though if you decide to build something before the book I wish you the best of luck and I hope to see some pics when it is done.

No it will have detail, read he's PS2p page and if thats anything like his book it will be very discriptive. The thing that he couldnt do was have a lot of pictures to help the readed along.

my first N64p actually got sold..............by a friend.............without him asking().............anyway it was sold for a $120 I think, but it didn't have an actual screen, just the GBA AV adapter.
oh yeah and HK, that was the exact conversation at the airport, how did you know?!?!?!?!? not really, but it was kind of similar.......oh yeah and some people at Old Navy (in the airport stores) called me a genius

Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!
