3 NOACs to the test.

I have a fully assembled yobo and soon to have one of those freaky Super or Power or whatever type of joy things. I am also getting some Japanese NOACs from SgtBowhack. I will be making them all into portables (all with the same psone screen, just with cords sticking out to hook into the psone clamps to make it work immediately) and comparing the experiences and effectiveness and difficulty and such. So here are my words before I get started
yobo: It seems to be smaller than the multiple "joys," and will work well without even having to convert due to already having a usa cart slot and controller ports.
"Joys": Everyone uses them (although I fail to see why, which I will hopefully see soon), and I have never seen one in person, but they seem to be smaller vertically, and you can put a switch for built in games if you wanna play one of those. (especially those new ones with over 100)
Wierd Japanese one: It looks like the yobo from the picture and may be smaller, I don't know much of these, so stay tuned.



Updates! Progress section time!



Yobo: cut off two boards and wired it to the psone screen, still no working controls. Relocated the cart slot, doesn't work. Still can't regulate the power from the battery right, still gotta mod it with LEDs

Power Joy: I got a power joy, which seems better than a super joy. Since the main NOAC board already has a small built in controller (like, way smaller than if I had to wire another PCB for a controller) and it came with a famicom cart with lotsa games in it instead of built in ones, meaning I can just take it out and put it back in. w00t! I got the video wired to the hipgear through pure trial and error. However, it seems that I must mod it with LEDs and build my own audio amp to remove reliance from the other PCB.

Wierd Jap NOAC: Still need a screen, haven't started yet.

I really like the Yobo. It takes the pain out of wiring a 72 pin connector or having to use a converter. Plus it seems to be one of the closest in performance to a real NES in terms of graphics and sound.

Ya, the Yobo is far easier to work with than the Super/Mega Joy NOACs. They already have a 72 pin cart connector, plus they didn't tamper with the sound chip like the other companies did. The only reason people use the crappy NOACs is because they run much cheaper if you can find them locally. Also, the American Yobo is far newer than the other NOACs, so some people are reluctant to use it since they are so used to the other kind.

Well, yobo is much cheaper. I can get them for somewhere in the $20s, when the "Joys" cost around $40. And these new Japanese ones are gonna be something *I think* none of us know much about yet. So I am anxious of those.

I know they suck, but I also know that the Super Joys do too... so it's hard to tell if one is better than the other.
I'm gonna start making a "FC Chimimouryou" (the name given to the barebones NOAC) compatibility list using the one or two I have left. I'll just sit there and pop a bunch of carts in and out... until my poor Family Converter wears out.

Well, I've recently come into the possesion of a NeoPocket Famicom, and I've finally done all the required measurements. See, after looking inside the Fami, i've noted that the shape is similar to a SJ3, and after inserting an NES (not Famicom) cart into the slot, I've realized that if you modded it with a NES cartslot. This would make it easier to play NES carts comfortably. Post tips if you've understood a word I said... I will be the first one ever with a Gametech PocketNES!

O, sh17, I thought I was making a new topic! Oh well, mod, please split! Anyway, unfortunately, Klem, it's impossible for me to get any pictures because my digital camera (which is broken anyway) is missing underneath the layers of garbage in my room. I'm pretty sure that Lik-Sang has some outside pics though. But just to get a better idea though, it's roughly 2 time as thick as an NES cart, GBA-sized screen, and the height of a GBA too...

Updated the "Super Mega Cheap NOACs!" thread with more news about the cheapo NOACs. BTW, be careful with the power buttons... one of the wires broke on one of mine :/ At least that's pretty easy to fix/replace/whatever.
