Another... Dreamcast Portable

This is my idea for a DC portable which is now entering it's first testing phases.

I'd like your feedback if at all possible.

My biggest idea was to reduce the size of the console by separating the GD-ROM unit from the rest of the assembly. The 'Read' device (nicknamed Perihelion) is slightly larger than a standard CD walkman and is designed to have an attachable belt loop, but could just as easily reside in a cargo pocket. Perihelion consists of the GD-Rom device, reader, and power supply.

The control unit, nicknamed Aphelion, is a custom moulded piece designed to resemble in every way the original Dreamcast controller, but has been extended 3.6 inches in the mid-section to make room for a 3.3" Color TV display. The original DC controller's Memory card bay now contains most of the DC's processing board, screen power supply and has room for one VMU except that the VMU display is not visible.

We are still perfecting the workings of the cable which connect Aphelion and Perihelion. Once testing is complete, we're going to start shopping custom plastics for a suitable case to contain everything in.

Just want to get some feedback on the unit, Anything people may or may not want to see included. I haven't noticed a lot of modem compatability in some other portables but I don't know if this is something anyone wants? We'll see, I guess.

Thats how I was doing on the gd-rom drive was sperate so it could have a cover. Sounds cool you should really regester.

How about being able to connect to another one and playing two-player games, except the screen is not cut in half for that.

the only way would be to somehow hook it up to a controller that broke the video signal in half either horizontally or vertically and then putting two screens on it.

Gee then what is that serial port in the back for. You use the vs link cable you can do it, works the same on the PS and the Xbox.

You can also use that port with a special cable to copy Dreamcast games onto your PC. Or, if you're a programmer, you could use it to load your own programs onto the DC.

Yeah yeah, but the original use was for the vs link, and if the zip drive came out for the Dreamcast it most likely would connect into the serial port.

Is the Zip drive available in Japan, since the DC still lives there as far as I know, or was it canned everywhere due to Zip Drives falling out of favor due to CD-RW and InCD software?

If they were going to make one, maybe someone could make their own 750MB for the DC, if the software was leaked and a normal 750MB ZIP was used...

i think thats a good idea... i would just focus on making the DC thinnner a two peace snap together system sounds like to much work...

i would place the GD unit next to the main board so i can jam a screen and controler on the other side making it like a giant VMU or a large gameboy! but i guess i still stand buy the semplicty of the concept i made earlyer.
