laptop dvd rom in xbox?

In theory it is possible to connect another DVD-rom to the Xbox. I've heard that there is a security method to keep you from using any DVD-rom, I dont' know if it's true any more. You can try and connect it if you want, if it doesnt' work chances are good that the people at Xbox-scene will have a way to get around it.

from what i recall, you CAN use a pc dvd drive in an xbox, but you still have to have the official drive plugged in to initially boot the system. im not sure if youre allowed to unplug it once its running.
and floppy drives use a diferrent interface than hard drives.

Most mod chips (which you'll likely have to run a laptop HD) will let you use one, or there is a hack (probably on X-Box Scene) where you have the X-Box's orginal drive (probably just the board would be enough) hooked to the mutant power connector, and then have a different drive hooked to IDE and it'll work with any drive.
