Has Anybody Tried 12v in the PSone Screen?

Has Anybody Tried 12v in the PSone Screen?
The reason being I want to use the voltage from my N64 battery to power the screen without frying it. I would rather not have to use a dc-dc converter if possible, because converting from 12 to 7 to 5 just seems dumb. Sorry if this has been asked before, I couldn't find anything in the search.
The N64 can take 7v to the 12v input, its just going to a 7805 regulator so its going down to 5v anyway. Just use batteries that output 7.2 volts. Then the only dc-dc converter you'll need it to knock the power down to 3.3v for the N64.

the minimum voltage for a 7805 is 7.2v, the maximum is 36v......that makes me think that the psone screen doesn't just run off one or two 7805s if when you start putting in higer voltages in gets screwed up.......

better, a dc-dc converter so that you dont waste the power as heat!
ouch. after i said the maximum was 14V, i just got told by gameleveler!

Okay heres what I got, I tried 12v in the screen and it turned on but was COMPLETELY distorted with lines all over the screen and stuff, a million miles from playable.
The 12v did not damage it luckily
So I guess it does need a DC-DC converter or a regulator.
So I was thinking that maybe I could run the screen AND the N64 board off a 7.5v DC-DC converter?
