Atari... Mario?!

Post by sniper_spike »

I was browsing around, AtariAge like a big playground
When suddenly...
I stumbled upon this little gem:
http://www.atariage.com/box_page.html?S ... TypeID=BOX

Is it just me, or do those two dudes on the bottom look like Mario\Luigi?
:|

Discuss.

Actually, not a mini game in smb3.

It was a seperate game on its own, called Mario Bros. It did come out for the VCS so it is them.

The game released for the Atari 2600/7800 with Mario and Luigi was simply "Mario Bros.". The Mini-game in SMB3 (to fight over territory claimed by a second player) is the same thing. It was non-scrolling, had platforms, and you had to kill 5 enemies first to win. Couldn't just jump on them either, you had to knock them upside down and THEN jump on them. You also had to dodge fireballs. I have it for the 7800.

This is why the platformer is called Super Mario Bros. Mario Bros. was already created. Also, Mario was in Donkey Kong, which is an even older game.
Warranty-Voiding fun!

The commercial for the atari Mario Bros. has the coolest videogame jingle ever:

Something's coming out the plumbing
Poor Luigi's in a bind.
Giant turtles out to get him
Creepy crabs are right behind.
Fighter flies! Holy cripes!
They're all coming out the pipes!
Luigi: Mario! Where are you!
