This comment is probably true of any politician anywhere, USA, UK, whatever:
* Whatever the candidates say in their manifesto, they will probably weasel out if elected anyway; or implement a watered down version.
* They change their policies everytime the wind changes, due to pressure from their own party and the opinion poll sways and what the opposition says. This week "love purple, hate yellow" next week "love yellow, hate purple".
* If, like in the USA, a candidate has taken donations for hundreds of thousands of dollars from companies and pressure groups, they will want their value for money if the guy gets elected - so basically, if you have the dollars, you decide policy not the schmuck up for election. That is hardly democratic!
* They will bring in unpopular measures stealthily that they knew at the time they were being elected they daren't state: or the plans from their opponents that they went against at the time are "suddenly a good idea".
* They are all doing what they do for their own gain and power, only a fool believes "they do it for the good of the country and its people" - yeah, right.
* If you are lucky you have two alternatives to kick out the current unpopular government, if unlucky (as for a long time in the UK) you only had one other serious party (pretty much still the case, really). That means you have the wonderful choice of - 1) do I hate the current government enough to vote elsewhere, and 2) is the other idiot worth voting for anyway?
* Don't be too bothered about "your vote counts", it often doesn't.
* They lie all the time and can't be trusted. Remember some great quotes from previous Presidents and the real truth?: "I cannot lie" (Nixon), "I did not have sex with that woman" (Clinton). The list goes on...
* Sex and financial scandles - need I say more? Talk about blackmailable and corruptable!
Bear in mind, you guys in the USA have Bush (lucky you), we have Brown (oh, crap). Happy days. If they don't want to attack someone else's country they are happy to erode their own economy and blame someone else. Happy days, lets all raise our glasses to our leaders...
So, who gives a monkey basically who wins the election, does it really matter? You're screwed whoever gets in anyway. When you guys get old gits, like me, you will see the logic of my wisdom!!
