Coilguns will never be as powerful as real guns. The best ones I've seen that are under 20 pounds are only as strong as a BB Gun. Also, 30 caps might have a discharge rate of too much, which will pull the bearing BACKWARDS into the tube, potentially firing everything backwards. Do lots of research, there's plenty out there.
never say never, with current types of capacitor a man portable one might about equal the power of a small caliber rifle at best and be much more bulky etc but years in the future with ultrasmall batteries and supercapicitors and whatnot anything is possible, and larger EM weapons like railguns mounted on tanks or battleships could have incredible power, enough knetic energy to blow through a tank or hit it so hard it flips it over, ya never know! also the record for highest speed for a "projectile of significant mass" is held by a railgun, 16000m/s firing of a .1 gram projectile, thats over 35 thousand miles per hour or about 47 times the speed of sound

Yeah, 350,000 mph for .0000000001 mile before it disintegrates.

No, the SR-71 goes 3 times the speed of sound and its huge compared to a .1 gram projectile, and I've never heard of one of them disintegrating.

There is quite a large difference between mach 3 and mach 47.

Railguns have a future on naval vessels as an alternative means of striking distant targets. It helps when you already have a nuclear reactor and millions of gallons of sea water (for cooling) at your disposal.

170,000 pounds compared to .1 gram is an even bigger difference.
