I'm not concerned about proof of your "worthiness". I have full confidence you can do this stuff.
I'm just worried about your welfare. I really hope you can find a job. :(

Heh...Thanks, Kurt. I needed that laugh. I meant the druggies in specific that shoot up.

I appreciate that, Mario. I really do. I'm working on it. But seriously, the only jobs out there are insurance jobs, nursing/at home care, and scams (Seriously, I read the statistics, and some 80% of all available jobs aren't real and are scams. Depressing stats, huh?). The first two jobs aren't to bad, but I'm not qualified for either, and working for an insurance company is a good way to starve unless you know a lot of employed people because its on a commission basis. I don't have that many employed friends.

It's just really depressing, and I don't have much to do to make it less depressing. I have a cheaper project that I'm screwing around with. Need to get a NES, yet. No easy task finding a cheap one in NY without going online. The local Play 'N Trade may sell Atari games at $5 a piece (Which is about average, I think), but NES consoles can be as high as $40. ONLY the console/wires as far as I know. But I press on. Might check a Goodwill for one too, even though they can probably dwarf the P 'N T prices. It's actually for two projects (No, I'm not making an NES portable. I'm short for screens as it is.). Anyways, thats my life thus far. Those who worry... I cant tell you not too, because I'm worried too. But don't worry to much. I will survive. Bruised and blooded, but alive.

Drama Queen!

Dude, the answer to all your problems is to just bio-engineer a zombie super-virus from AIDS and mad cow or something, and unleash it on the world. Then money is meaningless, and all of everyone's families will be dead except the few that survive. And think of the benefits! Less toxic emissions and pollution, more nature reserves, lower world population. And you get to shoot zombies! ...and clean up hundreds of corpses daily to prevent plague...

And dude, if you're 19, what about your family? Just chill with them or something until this whole economic crisis blows over.

1) I took drama class once....So I have that right. But drama KING would be more sexually accurate.

2)LMFAO. Zombie mass murder sounds fun. The rest is cool, too.

3) Why not chill with my family? Well, right now I am. My fiancées parents. But I'm NINE-FREAKING-TEEN. I wanna get out and live a little. My life is about a quarter over, and I spend that with my parents. I don't want to spend another quarter with them. I wanna get out and do something. And living with my parents won't solve my money issues. I'll still be broke and unable to work on my projects. So what did I solve? I got older with my folks, and got nothing to show for it. Thats why I got out. Thats why I'm trying to get a job, a home, and a pet rose-hair tarantula (No comment on the arachnid...).

Forgive me, but you really should rethink your perspective in life if that's how you feel. You're going to make yourself very unhappy that way. I lived with my parents until I was 25. It took that long to find a "stable" job that I could afford to live off. Now, that same job has become a part-time job that doesn't cover the necessities, so I took on other jobs. You aren't going to make or break your life overnight. Quit getting worked up about it and roll with the punches, as horribly cliched as it sounds. It's a lot easier to just chill with your parents, and given the situation, it isn't a bad option. Things will pick up and improve. See what kind of loans or grants you qualify for and go back to school to prepare for it.

Seriously, though, you aren't even legal drinking age yet. Quit thinking your life has to be some smashing success story every second of the day, because it never will be. You're just gonna make yourself miserable by thinking you've gotten nowhere. Just live where you are, and look for the opportunities. They will come. They always do.

I understand your point, Tib (And no forgiving required. I consider you a friend and give great thought to what you say to me), but being with my parents is stressful. Or was. I don't know, I haven't lived there for nearly 2 months. They says its changed. They want me back home. But I really want to "grow" on my own for a while. I want to be away. I want to be 25 and NOT with my parents. I want to turn 21 in a bar, with a triple shot of Absolute in front of me (No lie, thats what I want and have planned for a while). Hell I want to turn 20 with nobody but my fiancée by under the same roof as me. Hell, maybe even with her as my wife, not my fiancée.

And you know something. It does have to be a "smashing success story every second of the day" because I will accept nothing less. My future is now. And I will own it. Being owned by it is not an option I will entertain.

But that creates a lot of depression because its not happening as fast as I want. I'll deal. Thats just how I work. And before you say it; No. I wont be disappointed because someday my name will be known. Not by my portables/mods, because that line of work is taken by people beyond my skill. I don't know what it'll be known in. But just keep an ear open, because you will ALL hear it. No matter where you live. No lie, and no misjudgement. I will settle for nothing less.

This may sound sort of lame, but for some extra money....recycle. I do it all the time. Every vacume cleaner you find out at the road on trash night, take it. those things usually have around a pound an a half (if not more) of copper. Where I live, copper is about $2 a pound. Pick up fans too. Heck, the other night, somebody near me had copper plumbing out at the road in front of thier trash. If you want to, recycle aluminum cans too. Aluminum is about 60 cents a pound. i would not bother with iron right now though because it is only a penny a pound right now. My grandfather recently took a lot of scrap iron to recycle and he only got $5 for 500 pounds.

I'm just throwing that out there, though. Recycling won't get you an extreme amount of cash, but it all adds up. I really hope your situation gets better though. Just remeber what I said and try to gather some copper and aluminum (or brass if you can find some) for some spare change.

I suppose I owe you an update (Don't get your hopes up...It's nothing good).

Attempted for the fifth time today to do the cart slot relocation. Are they always this freaking frustrating? I mean, geezus. I only did it because I had nothing else to do (No money to buy a screen at the time I made that choice...Hell, no money for one now.), and now I don't have much of a choice but do it, and I cant get the wires to stay attached. For every one I solder, two or more come un-done, plus I've broken three pins (Luckily, I have spares and was able to replace them. But spares wont last forever.). I don't know why I'm getting cold joints (It's not for lack of solder, like my original thought. I used a ton this last time with no change), but I'm about ready to take a hammer to this damn thing and stick to doing the cosmetic mods I seem to actually have some luck with.

If I had money, I'd pay somebody to do it for me I'm so pissed and sick of doing it. In fact, the next money I make (Doing two or three projects for my fiancées brother (Will probably be posted here when they are done), and one for her mother), I just might do that. Anybody interested in rewiring a SNES cartslot to 2"-3" Kynar leads? How much would something like that run me (I don't have a way to use paypal. The best I could do would be a money order.)? And how long would it take?

I don't know. I'm pissed. I know I can get the screen and controls working. I know I can do the case work. I'm not convinced at all that I can do the cartslot work. And I'm seriously not interested in even trying anymore right now. Maybe later. But sure as hell not now.

If I decide to try again later (Which I doubt. I don't want to do it. I want it done.), what say you? Any tips, maybe?

I know SS said he would do an N64 cartslot for $10+shipping at some point, might wanna see if he would do it for your SNES.

My tip would be to use some sandpaper to get rid if whatever film of gunk there is, then try again. What wattage iron are you using?

just go easy on yourself and do not relocate the cart slot. It's not that bad having a cart sticking out the backside of the portable.
