I always eat baked potatoes like apples. The trick is to make a slit that goes all the way THROUGH the patato when you make it, bout 2/3 the length of the potato. I use that slot to put butter in when i'm done, anyways.

I burnt the top of my mouth the other week from eating straight from pan pierogies. Terrible idea...not as bad as your case though, I just let it heal on its own.

See, it works in two ways. The coldness will soothe the burn and the alcohol will take the edge off. Plus the alcohol will help sterilize the wound to promote faster healing!
