That's what those forums are for.

If a topic doesn't lend itself to open discussion, it'll die on it's own because people won't be adding to it. That's a self fixing problem. Same goes with telling people about something interesting that happened that could be a good conversation starter, often mislabeled as "blogging." And I would go on about politics and religion and stuff not being as bad as you make it out to be but I know the administration wouldn't care so I'm not even gonna go into that.

And I suppose I should say bye Kurt, as this is his going away thread

Forums do have a finite lifespan after all. Fortunately this forum is about modding a large variety of old systems which means some interest from quite a few people = enough on the site to keep it going.

Bottom line is that when "the current thing" like the PSP loses its charm, somewhere like AcidMods virtually dies, as that is what they dominate with. Diversification is key, however it has to stay relevant. People come here because every now and again Ben comes up with a fantastic mod and it gets publicity; then people are liable to visit the forum.

Many of the "old generation" like me who played the arcades in our teens and played on the likes of the Atari 2600 when it was first released, and still like old games (memories, etc) are less; most youngsters only like the latest mobile phones and latest games console; once all their mates have it too everyone loses interest. Not many youths appreciate the fantastic gameplay on old consoles.

Also, people who have been here for a while and aren't doing modding anymore only have whinging and trolling posts left here and irrelevant postings; hence they get bored and leave - on that note, bye Kurt (perhaps this time you actually mean it??).

The forum has to stay relevant to console system and modding and not move off the arena, however with so few active members (I estimate about 20 perhaps??) it is up to us to keep the site going; best way is for quality mods, not just wrapping a bit of card over something and taping it together, but proper modding. Moderators need perhaps to be quite tolerant with postings I think too, as we need to maintain all the members here and not make them feel there is nothing relevant here anymore - expressed by Jongamer (Forum 42 after all is for the irrelevant topics after all).

The hell? I love you man.

I agree, some people around here gotta loosen up in general. But understand this; after talking to tons of people outside of the forums, those people are in turn very "loose" and fun. These forums (as pronounced by Ben) are for video game hacking, and the Forum 42 is for strict general discussion - not the moderation's choice necessarily, though some moderators (including myself) have pushed the limit by being so intolerant.

Oh well, I don't care myself.
To complainers: bring it up with Ben. :P

hey! i fing that the old arcade games are the best (DIG DUG!!!!). I have an Atari system that has BASIC on it but i still like it because that is where the first games are and the designers did a good job getting the games running on 0kb memory...

Bye kurt

ps. Kurt, if i was any looser - i would drop off
"Sir, we are surrounded"
"Excellent, we can attack in any direction"

I used to love all the old Megadrive & SNES games, but sadly the lifespan as you talked about ran out for me and I lost interest. After playing them with nothing new to play on them the interest died out a bit, not to mention on all retro consoles I played all the best titles anyway. Now I only play PS3 and don't even bother with that very often.

Ben's forum, Ben's rules. If he doesn't want that kind of garbage here, it won't be here. As far as I'm concerned, Forum 42 is nearly all spam. "I'm leaving foreverz", "Listen to my Garage Band!", "It's my birthday!" etc. Keep that crap on YOUR site.

And if you think this place needs to be "loosened up", go make your own damned forum with your own rules. There's plenty of free ones out there, and you can be as "loose" as you want to.

It all comes down to Ben's place, Ben's rules. If you don't like it, shut up and go. Quit spamming us with your griping.

the reason we dont allow discussion of religion or politics on this forum is because 9 times out of 10 after a few posts it usually boils down to nothing more than a flamewar, we tried to allow political discussions to run their course on a few occasions and the longest one lasted before flaming became a problem was about 2 pages

I remember one religion thread that went for 10+ pages, and I don't think it was even locked, just died out.

Yeah, me too, that guy's a douche.

To all those who are complaining about the death of the forums and all that jazz, I have a bit of a different opinion, take it as you may. The content here hasn't changed much over the years, but the people have. We used to have a lot of awesome characters here, but they've all gone and have been replaced by a wave of crap-posting, immature 10-13 year olds. I'm sorry if you fall into that demograph, but it's true.

As far as being more lax goes, sure. We used to have some "riskay" discussions, but they were integrated into threads that were topical, whereas now we have a number of retards who sit around and post threads because they wanna talk about how to get high. I guess a good comparison would be Cennar-based comments (those who know who I speak of get it) and blatant retartedness.

Anyways, bye, Kurt. You'll be back, don't worry.

At least he didn't encourage people to drink whatever they find in the medicine cabinet and see what happens. :P

Sad to see you go, Kurt. :(
