Wow, a lot of people here want 512MB of RAM? I went to a Gig and that is my minimum amount since I went higher. Although, I am talking about a PC based system, not a MAC based system. Since the processor languages are different, I assume that everything else is, including but not limited to; RAM slots, Video card and sound cards, and other expansion slots/ chipsets. Therefor I cannot make a valid statement for a MAC with 512MB of RAM.
I do know that for power and speed per mghz, the MAC is a better machine in all aspects. The only reason that PCs are dominate is because large companies started to use it and its CPUs. But still, MACs are dominate however a large portion of the industry using PCs, MACs are still the underdog (but better!). If you have the money, get a older MAC and upgrade it (I heard those older versions, circa 1999-2000 are the better MAC machines).
When in Japan with access to just about every system ever made and those that have yet to see international soil, gather your forces, and make the cool ones your own.

Not sure quite what you mean there, but if you're suggesting that Macs use different interfaces for RAM, HD, etc, that's false. Mac's have ATA, SATA, PCI AGP, the same DDR RAM as PCs (ie PC 2700 or PC3200 or whatever). The OS is just more efficient at using them.
