It is indeed. What I did with mine was use it for... experiments. (how much can the board be trimmed before the thing falls apart)

Well here's my suggestion: Take the sound chip of a broken SNES board and solder it on there

but seriously, i'd just use it till you get a new one. You can develop and test other parts of your portable with it

Or I could put it in with my other useless PC components and PCI cards and make art with it. Not as useful for learning how small I can make something, but it could be very nice looking.

it has quite a bunch of holes. Hold it in front of a lamp and stare at it, it's quite beautiful. You can also try to look through the tiny holes.

I'm sorry to hear about the screen. That's really unfortunate.

It just doesn't seem that it would stop working overnight.

Try the screen with another power source. Make sure it is getting video, too. Try the 5v-to-pin-12 trick. Don't give up on it now! >_<

That is what she said, actually...

I checked the screen. and still nothing. Nothing off the 7805's. No backlight. Nothing off the backlight transformer. No power getting to the SNES. I think its fair to say that the PSone screen motherboard is toast.

Look at it this way; I learned a lot in this. Even if I failed this to the point of needing to start almost completely from scratch, I learned better of myself. And bettered my skills with a soldering iron.

So... I need an SNES mini, and an entire screen unit. Now is not the time to be glum. Sure, I don't have the money to buy those parts now, and wont in the near future. But I'll be able to in time, right? I mean, its two components. Best case sernerio, obviously, is I get the parts cheaply, or better yet; free (Which means I could have a FINISHED portable in about 60 days). Worst case, I learned something. And I need to buy those parts on my own (A lot longer than 60 days...But still have a finished SNESp).

There are other parts of this project I can still do. Like logo. I need a logo for this. I'm a graphic designer. I can make a logo. I need a name (I've selected a Project name...It may very well pass over to be the actual system name.). I'm good at names (I think). And if I cant come up with a name on my own, there's always the Seventh Sanctum generators that I can use for ideas. Work to be done, no matter how you look at it. And as much as I'd like it to be actual electronics work, my money is short, and my time to make orders is limited (Losing the internet soon unless I can come up with the bill money. If I just disappear, its because I have no internet. I'll return. Like always.). I'll do what I can.

Any help is appreciated, as always. Thanks for helping me troubleshoot, guys. And for the assorted links and images. Been more than helpful.

Oh well, that's the sad part about portables. They're so dang expensive!

Wait, did you say the SNES isn't getting power, either? When you measured the batteries, did you measure them before or after the protection circuit?

The pack is factory sealed in shrink wrap. Came pre-wired to the protection circuit. Remember; I'm powering the SNES from one of the 7805's off the back of the PSone screen. When I say that the SNES isn't getting power, its because the PSone screen isn't outputting anything.

Oh, I see. I think the SNES should have a separate power supply, you'll eventually burn out the 7805s on the screen. Which is probably what happened.

Try replacing the 7805(s).

Its what LoB does with his SNES portables. Saves on battery power.

If it was just the 7805's that were dead, the backlight transformer would still be powered, and lighting my backlight. And even then, the screen would show some evidence of working when I supplied power to the required pins.

I won't send the LCD unless you need it. Not to be greedy, I'd just like to keep it if I can.

And when you did these tests, was the LCD plugged in to the board? Maybe nothing works if the screen isn't plugged in.
