viewing angle: LCD or backlight?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

viewing angle: LCD or backlight?

Post by daguuy »

with most LCDs, you can only see a good picture if you look at it at the right angle. is this because of the LCD or the backlight and would an LED mod fix this?

All LCD's are that way. The back light has nothig to do with it. although I have noticed when you turn down the brihtness you can tilt the screen forward more than you can when it's up higher. Kinda odd.

I ordered mine from here. Good prices (almost too good), and the LED's had some great specs from what I know about LEDs. I haven't received them yet, so I can't say for sure they work great, though.

Did you find that site through one of my posts? I've linked to besthongkong many times, usually for the resistor calculator.

Possibly. I think I remember searching Google for good LED sites, and Besthongkong was by far the cheapest. I know I've used the resistor calculator on it before, so maybe it was you who introduced me to it.

Does it matter whether i use a 3mm white led or a 5mm white led to mod my psOne screen?

If they're 5mm LEDs (T-1_3/4), return them. Get 3mm (T-1) ones from Digikey or Mouser. 5mm ones won't fit at all in the Sony screen. Trust me.
