DIY Projector - Completed!

It's not noticeable, but there is about a 2.5mm gap between the glass stage and the LCD unit.

I added spacers in the original design in case this problem should happen. I have a small cross-flow blower that I will add to move air through the small gap.

I am planning on removing most of the heat with an IR filter from the DIY Projector Company. I ordered a 13" by 13" piece from their site, it was a good deal, around $20.00 including shipping.

Radon, do you know if I still will have to use a fan even when the IR filter is installed? My instincts tell me that the fan will not be needed.

Im not compleetly sure, I don't really know how hot the glass on top of the OHP will get, you might you might not, best thing to do is stick the filter on, and then prop up one side of the LCD and put a meat thermomiter inside for about an hour.

Yeah today my physics professor gave me the old MH bulb from the room's projector.

What would I want with a burned out bulb?, you ask.

The assembly has what looks like a shielding glass mounted to the front.

This may be an ultraviolet or IR filter, but I'm gonna take it off and place it in front of the halogen in my projector.

It may not do a whole lot, but it's better than nothing.

If it's an actual bulb be carefull, that quarts filiment contains mercury upon other nast crap you don't ever want to get near.

If it's just a old socket with the IR glass by all means take it out. BTW, if you have an old scaner and know how to cut glass you can use that as an IR blocker.

The picks of my 99% completed PJ (99% because it will never be truly done, I will always be tweaking it ^.^)!!!!

For some reason the nightmode on my camera makes the images look more orange than they really are, but it's the only way yo get a good representation of the brightness.

The picture looks 100x better in real life but this is the best my camera can do.

Ok, #1.

Heres the back of the PJ, you can see the power distrabution node (aka the lightswitches) on the back and you can also see the platform it's sitting on.

Heres the side of the PJ, you can see the VGA cable and that LCDs control panel here.

Here is the focus ring, it lets me make minute ajustments to the sharpness.

Here is my lovely screen, it is made from blackout cloth and incresses the brightness and clarity of my image two fold compaired to a normal white wall, not as good as a $200 commercial screen but not bad for $50 CAD.

Best image ive watched on the PJ, turn the base up real high and you can just feel that first breath right down to your bones.

A very orange image of The Increadibles, the night setting on my camera really effts up the colors. In person the suits look very red.

Frodo, images still really freaking orange.

Are those your speakers? Please tell me they are not. Also can someone explain the basic concept of this projector. Like how it works im trying to understand it.

Haha Ya those are my speakers, being only 17 my projector broke my buget so ill have to live with them for a whyle.

The basic structure of the projector is you place a really freaking bight lamp at one end of a box, it shines through a LCD, a frensle lense points all the light to a projection lense, the light gets amplifyed and projected onto a screen.

Looks great! Very nice results on that, and I like the way you have the box set up

. I'll be getting a new bulb for mine (a little over 4 times brighter!) on tuesday, hopefully it'll work out ok

i might try doing what SNESguy did but with a psone screen if i can find a projector for like $5
