XBox to PSONE LCD's (Best video options?)

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

XBox to PSONE LCD's (Best video options?)

Post by Jeepin_CJ7 »

I have two PSONE LCD screens that I am putting in the headrests of my Yukon. I will be sending video via a modded XBox running XBMC. This is mainly for my kids to play some games and watch divx movies on trips.

I would like the best possible video signal going to these two screens. I do not want to use a composite signal.

Does the PSONE LCD truly display an S-Video signal? If so, that would be sufficient. Segasonicfan has a thread that shows how to display S-Video here. But searching on another forum he then says
I did figure out an S-Video mod (probably similar to yours) that you can see here but I'm pretty sure the chip is just combining the luma and chroma inputs internally because the video is still a composite picture.

So is it or isn't it an S-Video signal by using the above method? Is there another way to display S-Video? (and don't tell me to use an S-Video to composite adapter, that is still composite)

If S-Video is not an option, then what other inputs will the PSONE LCD take? My XBox will not display VGA, so that one is out. Here are the outputs that the XBox can display. It can output SCART (15 kHz RGB), is that an option?

I really appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Alan

Well, in segasonic's thread, he says the video quality is much better. I'm almost definitely sure the screen can take RGB, because that's what it uses when it is plugged into the PSone console.
Because it's a SCART xbox, I'm assuming you're in the UK? I don't know much about SCART but I'd assume it can be used to drive the lcd.

Thank you for explaining your question very well, I could understand what your were asking very well. Keep it up!

Marshall

Man, marshall's....good, real good! :D

I have a plan though that if I can just put female RCA jacks on PSONE, could that work :?

Sorry it's taken me so long to repond.

I have an NTSC Xbox and I'm in the USA. I belive that my XBOX will output 15kHz rgb using an UK SCART cable. I plan to buy a cable like this one on ebay and cut off the SCART connector. Soldering the C sync, Red, Green, Blue, and ground wires to the CN4 connector on the PSOne screen should give me an RGB signal.

LCD inputs

XBOX pinouts

I know I could make one pretty easy, but this cable will be look nice and save me some soldering (which my skills lack).

Thanks for all your help, and I will post back here with a report on how well it works. Please let me know if you see any problems with this setup, as I probably won't purchase it for a couple of days.

Actually, using a VDigi VD-Z3 VGA transcoder, the XBox component output can output VGA. I have a VD-Z3 on order. I'll see what can be done with the psone screen.

I purchased the SCART xbox cable, but it wouldn't show an image. It has been too long to remember all the details. I was wondering if anyone else has been able to get a good image (not composite) out of an xbox onto these psone screens?

Jimguy: Have you done anything with the transcoder?

Thanks for the help. I now have some time to get back on this project.

After reading this thread, I may have needed more caps. I think the cable came with three, and they were used.
