headphone quick fix

I have a par of head phones that cut out on one ear and wont work until I fiddle with that ear's volume control (stupid I know but I got these for free, the kind that are made of good material and cover your ears) I was wondering if I could drop some solder on the connections and that would fix it, but I haven't actally opened them up, they are...A pair of PHILIPS Stereo Headphone SBC HP170

Headphone use a weird kind of wire. Solder won't stick to it. If the wire comes off you're pretty much screwed.

carefully peel away the coured bit from the edge and then add a little flux

solder sticks fine, you just have to heat the wire end first. hold the soldering iron on the end of the wire for like 15 secdondsm then apply solder and wait for it to soak into the wire.

Usually the stuff's kind of like desoldering braid, for flexibility. Just take some 400-ish grit sandpaper and scuff the end until it's shiny, then tin the wire and solder it to the speaker terminal.

you dont even need to do that. i just replaced the wire on a pair of earbuds and it had that funky wire. when i heated it up with the iron, the solder stuck fine

but, I wanted to know if this is maybe a bad connection on the vol adjustment
or maybe some problem in the wire

sorry to bring back the dead, but can anyone find me a manual? or patent on how to take it apart?

you probably have to manually pop the plastic off. They wern't meant to be opened...
