I really need help with PSX to Parallel controller

Right, I followed this guide to make a psx controller. It has power, the analogue light comes up but it isn't detected by any sort of drivers or anything. What happened was, I soldered all the wires, then there was this spare one, it didnt have a casing, I soldered it to pin 19 on the parallel port thing.

I installed NTpad and that didn't give any input signals. The I tried PSXpad and no input signals either. I have checked my wiring again and again. What do I do?

I haven't, no. Because i'm running XP, considering the NTpad drivers I got.

Try the interface for the Direct Pad Pro PSX interface. Use either 1N914 or 1N1418 (fast switching) Diodes. If those dont work try 1N4001 (small signal/rectifier) diodes.

Also make sure you have the proper LPT Port settings in windows Device Manager.

Oh yeah. My friend is checking wiring tonight and is going to use diodes instead. I think I blew my parallel port because the 0v pin on the molex connector wasnt connected properly, but the 5v was. So I think that it's gone. With the drivers, could I set them up to read from my serial port instead? Cause I want to get a parallel to serial converter and just use the serial port instead? Right?
