Oooooh, new projector

After months of debating between me and dad/brother, I finally won the argument. They wanted a plasma (though later changed to a big screen) where I kept on saying we should have a projector for our basement, which is being slightly remodeled. Now, I have this hanging from the ceiling, in the same room as the arcade cab. Boy, this thing is beautiful! 2 component inputs, HDMI (I think it's called) VGA, and a 5500:1 contrast ratio (most have about 500, say in offices and the like) I tell you, this thing gives a mighty fine picture, even my neighbor was impressed, and this is a guy that knows his home theatre stuff

nice, i always wanted one but i'm too cheap and got an old projection TV instead

. i'm definitely getting a projector when i move out

my friend got a pretty nice dell projector but i dont think it cost that much

I my self am a rear projection guy, but projectors can be quite nice if setup right, and the room is dark enough.

Wow, thats great. Now my composite and RF accepting 30" TV that I just got seems kinda pathetic. Ah well, I'll just tell mylelf that projectors suck until I start to believe it.

Yeah projector's are nice if you have a dark room.. cause if it is bright then it ruins the picture contrast a little. Also if you are running around in your basement and something gets thrown then your wall is damaged and so is your screen essencially.

Well I still feel fine about my 43" widescreen tv with rgb and composite and hdtv input....

wow!! great contrast mine only has 4000:1 contrast but its worth it for the colours we get!

I'm good with my 19" CRT. I never watch TV, I download anime and cartoons and criz-nap and watch them on my computer.

my tv is 4:3 aspect ratio, but has HD, which is bad when you want to watch HD shows because the screen is like letterboxed.

I'll have to remember that site. My dad's been looking for a projector, and if I can get him to buy one I can get that nice 31" tv thats sitting in our living room. Its better then the 20" mono tv I have in my room right now.

welcome to the projector club. And it's quite a specimen too. I used to be one of those really harcore high-quality/small screen snobs, but then I realized what a 10ft diagonal image looked like

"contrast" and "quality" are concerns of people that don't get to crane their necks back to watch TV. I see where they're comming from and freely admit that my picture looks like butt--but at least it's a really, really big butt. It's about the experience--not a day goes by when I don't think to myself "wow, I really have a projector".

my only worry is that bulb expense on that unit may keep you from enjoying your projector for everything. what do your bulbs run anyway? $100-200? 'Special occasion' projector use is okay, but really what good are they if you spend most of the week with a standard TV strapped to your eyes?
