Custom carts anyone?

Post by arfink »

I know this isn't really %100 on topic, but has anyone out there ever been interested in custom carts for NES? I say this because I wanted to be able to play some Japanese games on my NES handheld which I had played on an emulator with the translation patches. I have already made a Famicom Wars, and I can maybe give some help to people who are interested.

yes, this would be burned, in a way. Famicom wars is the Famicom version of Advance Wars.

Since fami-wars is MMC4 or mapper 10, I had to do LOTS of custom wiring, but common ones like MMC3, (mapper4) are easyer.

In case youre wondering, I use bios chips pillaged from 486's and burn the roms onto them. I do a little re-wiring, plop the chips onto the PCB, and viola. Actually, its a little harder than that, but that would take up lots of room...

If you want to make your own NES carts, look for something called the IO-56 or IO-48. Ive used that to program my own home made carts.

You could also look at http://www.tripoint.org/kevtris/Project ... index.html

Building a cart with PROG, CHAR, and SRAM with mappers is kinda easy if you know WTF it all is.

Thanks guys, but I was wondering if anyone ELSE wants to do this. I have already done it. I have a chip programmer and several different sizes of flash roms which I already use. I can burn and re-burn my MMC3 flash cartridge all I want to, and it runs almost every mapper 4 nes rom I can think of. So, is anyone ELSE interested?

I am, but I only need the software to split the files into the PRG ROM chip and CHR ROM chip files I already have a pair of EPROM burners and various 27Cxxx chips, mostly 27C256 and 27C101/27C010 chips. That's 32KB (256Kb) and 128KB (1024Kb/1Mb) respectively.

(I had originally planned to burn Kyatto Ninden Teyandee, but the translation patch never materialized.)

Where can I find such a splitter that is easy to use?

An easy to use splitter is Ucon64. Convert your .NES into the Paso-Fami format, and you will get three files. One is the PRG dump, another the CHR dump, and the third is a tag file which is used to tell an emulator that uses Paso-Fami what mapper is being used, etc. If you are burning a cart, than this file is basicly junk, which you may safely get rid of.

I thought you (as in mm007) were the one who had me split a few files for you with ucon64 a few months (maybe even a year :P) ago :?
