I have been writing and porting various things to the Dreamcast for about a year now. I'm the author of Super Famicast (SNES emulator) and DCFlash (SWF Player). I'm also working on an improved version NesterDC (NES emulator) and DreamScript, a JavaScript interpreter.JackFrost22 wrote:Good research Sherzo. Seeing as, to my knowledge, consoles didn't even used to HAVE a gpu, I always thought that 'bits' referred to the cpu. Very well, in that case the xbox is 256 bit and the dreamcast is 128 bit.gannon wrote:z16bitsega, when we refer to bits in consoles we refer to the gpu bits, not the cpu bits!!

Yes, we do refer to the CPU when we say bits. Companies oftentimes use the GPU's number of bits as an marketing strategy to make it look better to the consumer. It really makes no difference. The Xbox as well as your computer are both 32-bit and both can whoop a 32-bit PlayStation. Bits are not the only way to judge a system.

Look the Xbox is 128bit, even if we have a video card out that can process 256 its only out recently and the only game that would use it to its fullest is something like Doom3.

The Mac OS X is partly open source. It as to be as the kernal is based on the freeBSD's, and the license that the open source stuff falls under is that any changes made you have to offer you cant use it and claim its IP. The things like the GUI are IP and as they have no open sourse code in them Apple is not obligated to give it out.Passerby wrote:BTW, MacOS is not open source and is commercial. Exactly. There's much more to MacOS than the open source hunk though. And the forum listing has no bearing on how the market works. 256 actually, from everything I'm seeing about it. But yeah, the xbox is a 32 bit console.scherzo wrote:OK, so the graphics chipset in the XBOX has a 128-bit pipeline.
