Top loading rant.

To be honest, I'm tired of the whole craze of the Top loader.

Top Loading NES's are not as great as everyone makes them out to be.
I have owned mine since they came out.
I use my Toaster NES 9 times out of 10.
People complain about how much blinking goes on with the toaster and how you HAVE to spend retarted amounts of money on ebay to have this 'awesome' top loader. False.

FACT: A clean nes blinks less.

Top loading Nes's arent worth the money, buy an older one for $10 and clean it. Straight up.

Actually, the NES toploader uses a connector not much different from the Super Nintendo. (It's just 72 pins instead of 62 pins. )

The Original NES uses a low insertion force connector that requires you to "click" it down to make it connect.

This was a fatal design flaw, because the spring connectors lost their strength after about 10 years.

This obviously, causes the obnoxious blinking found in 90% of all NES's.

Thats an awesome idea! I would make a toaster into a console with NOAC, and GOAC cartridge slots in the... slots (what are those called). The power switch would be the lever. I can imagine how scared my friend would be if I asked him for his Zelda cart and put it in my toaster.
EDIT: I think I misunderstood your post, but still a toaster console would be awesome.

there's also less modification required for the Disk System with a toploader.
but then why bother to go halfway when you could just get a famicom for disk support?

actually, what I'm liking is the new thin clones with the 60-pin, 72-pin and wireless controllers. For $60, who could ask for more? (though a CDrom would be handy)

A 4 slot toatser that takes 4 different kinds of carts would be great. Especially if it was one of those advacado green 60's toatsers.

Anyway, back on subject, I've seen top loaders go for under $50 on ebay (which is why I don't buy them in town when I see them going for about $40). I've haven't spoken to anyone that has a "generation NEXt" or whatever that thing with the built in wireless controllers is called.

I've heard, but haven't tried this yet, that a lot of blinking comes from the connector messing up the data transfer to the security chip in the NES. If you disable that chip in addition to cleaning / rebending the original connector contacts you'll probably never blink again.

I know it's silly, but that toaster idea is growing on me... Sounds like a fun mod. It's already got the place for you to put in the cartridge, and I guess you could use the other slot as a place to put the controller ports. Hey, you could use the sliding lever thingy for the power switch!

Sorry not on the original topic but on the toaster topic...

I was thinking along the same lines as vb_master but also wherever the heat/toasting element is maybe put a sheet of metal or build a box around the LEDs (in picture below) so the light can only escape from the zig zag cuts that look like actual heat elements so when your friends look into the toaster they see the same colour and shape that the elements would give off. That would be one hell of a good april fools day joke
